ASL Creating Content at Sport Beach, Cannes Lions Festival 2024

Last month, ASL Productions had the incredible opportunity to return to Cannes, France, for the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity. Our valued partners at Stagwell and Team invited us back for the second year in a row to cover the spectacular Sport Beach, where sports meets marketing in the most exhilarating way.

Sport Beach is the premier activation at the Cannes Lions Festival, blending athleticism and creativity to create an unforgettable experience. This year, Stagwell took it to new heights with a fan zone, additional activations, a rock wall, and two elevated content studios on either side of the main stage. Each day was packed with energy, featuring morning run clubs, pickleball matches, engaging main stage content, golf activities, flag football games, and live podcasts. The vibrant atmosphere and innovative programming made for an action-packed week of content and inspiration! And ASL Productions was there to cover it all.

Interviews from Above

With two elevated content studios overlooking the court and beach, we were at the heart of the action, conducting non-stop interviews alongside our content partners from Team Enterprises. These studios provided the perfect vantage point for capturing insightful soundbites while showcasing the vibrant activities below. Each day, from 9am to 5pm, we meticulously set up, lit, scheduled, and operated these spaces, ensuring every detail was perfect for our interviews.

We collaborated closely with local crews who ran the content studios under our supervision, ensuring a seamless and professional operation. Throughout the week, we conducted a total of 169 fifteen-minute interviews, accommodating groups of two to four people at a time.

Once the interviews were captured, we handed the footage over to our on-site edit teams made up of a DIT and two editors. These teams worked tirelessly to ingest and edit the interviews daily, delivering polished and timely content that captured the essence and excitement of Sport Beach

Daily Fast Turn Sizzle Recap Videos

Each day, our editors produced a sizzle reel highlighting the day’s events, ready for all participants to share. Content from 12 cameras and two photographers was meticulously ingested and sorted to create high-impact sizzles that showcased the day’s highlights.

By the end of the week, we had accumulated nearly 15TB of footage, capturing the full energy and excitement of Sport Beach.

Two photographers staggered throughout the day meant capturing photos from 7am-11pm each day. That resulted in over 30k total photos. We turned in cards as many as 10 times a day to make sure our post team could be organizing and sorting to ensure everyone got their pictures as soon as possible.

Pickleball, main stage content, BTS shots, posing, on the court, on the beach and with the Olympic Torch…just to name a few! We were there for each and every moment to capture every bit of action for Sport Beach participants, sponsors and athletes.

Content from 7am-11pm Every Day

Capturing content for over 16 hours each day with local French crews who work in 8-hour shifts and no scheduled lunch breaks required meticulous scheduling and teamwork. Crews covered for each other during breaks, and shifts were carefully coordinated to maintain continuous coverage. Each day, we covered over 40 activations, ensuring that every event was photographed and filmed according to detailed shot lists.

The dynamic environment, with multiple activities happening simultaneously and high-profile moments—like Elon Musk stopping by—added to the excitement and complexity.

Ensuring clean transitions and capturing these constantly changing, high-profile moments meant we had an abundance of content to manage and produce!
