What Is Executive Video Production?

Executive messaging and thought leadership video is video content built around a company’s leaders, CEO messages, executive interviews, fireside chats, thought leadership series, and executive podcast appearances. Well-produced executive video builds authority in a category, differentiates a founder’s voice from competitors, and gives leadership a way to reach customers, employees, and industry audiences at scale. ASL Productions has produced executive video for corporate leaders across financial services, technology, and healthcare since 2007. Our 7,500 sq ft Midtown Manhattan studio has hosted named talent including Ben Stiller, Maury Povich, Barry Diller, and Kylie Kelce for podcast recordings and interview series.

In nearly two decades running corporate video production, we’ve come to see executive video as different from every other category we produce. The on-camera subject usually has no camera training, faces enormous audience expectations, and often can’t afford to look anything less than his or her best. The wrong production makes a smart executive look stiff or defensive. The right one lets them sound like themselves at their best.

Executive Video Formats We Produce

CEO & Founder Video Messages

Direct-to-camera or interviewed video from the CEO or founder for internal or external audiences. Common use cases: quarterly strategy updates, culture and values messages for the workforce, external announcements about major decisions, response to industry events. Related to internal communications video when the audience is employees. Studio-shot when consistency is critical; on-location when the setting adds meaning.

Executive Thought Leadership Interviews

Longer-form interview content where an executive discusses a topic they’re a recognized expert in. Formats include 10 to 15 minute polished interview films, five to seven minute cutdowns for LinkedIn native video, and 30 to 60 second social-optimized versions. Best when the interview subject genuinely has a well-formed point of view, not a marketing exercise.

Fireside Chats & Panel Conversations

Two-or-more-person conversations, either studio-shot or captured at industry events. Includes the increasingly common podcast-style interview format where an executive interviews someone else in their industry. Fireside chats are also fixtures of user conferences, sales kickoffs, and investor events.

Executive Podcast Production

Branded podcasts hosted by executives, CEOs interviewing industry peers, founder-led discussions of category trends, corporate podcasts featuring rotating internal or external guests. This is a category we know deeply. Our Manhattan studio has hosted named talent including Ben Stiller, Maury Povich, Barry Diller, and Kylie Kelce for podcast recordings and interview series. We produce for corporate executives with the same infrastructure and standards: dedicated podcast room configurations, broadcast-quality audio capture, multi-camera video, and post-production tuned for both audio and video distribution.

Investor & Earnings Video

Quarterly investor commentary, IR videos, executive-narrated financial results, roadshow content for institutional investors. This is regulated content: SEC disclosure considerations apply, legal and compliance review needs to be built into the production timeline, and scripting is typically tight.

Executive Appearances on Third-Party Content

Media training and pre-production support for executives appearing on other people’s podcasts, industry keynote videos, or trade publication content, often more strategic than producing your own, one appearance on a widely-heard industry podcast reaches more relevant audience than a year of self-produced content. We handle prep with the same rigor as our training video production work.

Why ASL’s Manhattan Studio Matters for Executive Video

For most categories of corporate video we produce, the studio is one option among several. For executive video, the studio choice is a decision that often shapes whether the shoot works at all.

The Studio Signals the Standard

Executives, particularly high-profile ones, evaluate the studio before they open up. Our Manhattan studio at 320 W 37th Street has hosted named talent including Ben Stiller, Maury Povich, Barry Diller, and Kylie Kelce for podcast recordings and interview series. For the CEO or founder walking in for the first time, this sets an implicit standard that a lower-tier facility can’t match. It’s not about celebrity by association, it’s about the executive trusting the room enough to speak candidly.

Two Stages, One Day, Multiple Formats

Two soundproof stages with an adjacent control room mean multi-format executive shoots can happen in a single day. A formal interview on one stage, a candid conversation or B-roll setup on the other, with the same crew. For executives whose calendar is measured in 30-minute increments, that’s often the difference between the project happening at all and sliding a quarter.

Midtown as Executive Time Optimization

The Midtown location, walkable from Penn Station, Grand Central, and Times Square, in easy reach of Madison Square Garden, means executives can shoot in 90 minutes between other meetings without a full production day off-site. We’ve built our production process around that reality: fast setup, efficient shoot flow, executive schedules protected.

Podcast-Optimized Configurations

Our podcast room is configured for the specific technical requirements of podcast production: broadcast-quality microphones per participant, isolated audio capture that can be recut cleanly, multi-camera video for the video-podcast market, and post-production workflows designed for both audio and video distribution. The audio quality of your podcast against your industry’s leading podcast is what listeners judge in the first 30 seconds.

Full-Service Production with Executive Prep Support

ASL Productions is a full-service video production company. Executive prep and message coaching are part of how we produce executive video, not a separate consulting engagement. Here’s how prep works inside a production:

Pre-Shoot Briefing

Before shoot day, we run a briefing call with the executive and the relevant stakeholders, communications, IR, or internal comms depending on the project. Content covered: message clarity, audience expectations, what the final piece will look and feel like, wardrobe and setting guidance, and honest expectations about the shoot day itself. Executives who show up cold to a shoot day almost never nail the first take, regardless of camera experience.

Question Structure for Interview Formats

For interview-driven executive video, we build question sets designed to elicit specific storytelling rather than defensive canned answers. Not “why is your company the leader in X” but “tell me about a specific decision you made in the last year that surprised you.” The right question set converts the interview from a marketing exercise into a substantive conversation.

Message Shaping for Scripted Content

For CEO video messages, we work with the client’s comms team to shape the message before shoot day. Not writing the content, that stays with the comms team, but structuring what’s written for on-camera delivery. Sentences that read well in writing sometimes don’t land when spoken.

Multi-Take Management

Some executives nail it in one take. Some need 15. Both are normal. We build the production timeline for whichever your executive turns out to be, without treating multiple takes as a problem. Executive video failures usually happen when the crew loses patience before the executive finds their groove.

Industry Applications

Executive video matters more in some industries than others. These are the verticals where we produce the most executive content:

Financial Services & Fintech

Financial services executive video operates in a regulated environment. Quarterly earnings commentary, IR video, and executive-facing thought leadership all touch SEC disclosure considerations. Our work with Lincoln Financial, Alpha Financial, and RSM includes executive video content across these formats. The production challenge is coordinating legal and compliance review into the timeline.

Technology & Software

Founder-led thought leadership is a category unto itself in tech. Technical CEOs on camera facing developer, product, or engineering-leader audiences require different production choices than consumer-facing executives, specificity matters more than polish, and technical credibility comes across in unscripted moments more than in message framing.

Healthcare & Pharma

Healthcare executive video sits in a regulated environment with additional accuracy requirements. Medical claims require substantiation, scientific content requires SME verification, and executives speaking to clinical audiences need to be credible about specifics. Production timelines here are longer because review cycles are longer.

Consumer & Retail Leadership

Founder and executive-led content is a differentiator for direct-to-consumer and retail brands in ways it wasn’t a decade ago. Consumers increasingly evaluate brands based on the founder or CEO’s voice, genuine, transparent, and specific. Executive video in this vertical typically emphasizes casual settings and unscripted formats.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much prep does an executive need before an on-camera shoot?

More than most executives think, less than most communications teams fear. Standard prep for a substantial executive video project includes a 30 to 60 minute pre-shoot briefing call with the executive, message shaping with the comms team in the days before, wardrobe and setting guidance, and 15 to 20 minutes on shoot day for on-set warm-up. Rushing prep is the single biggest factor in executive video projects that don’t work.

Should our executive be interviewed or scripted?

For most executives, interview beats scripted. Executives on scripted teleprompter tend to sound like they’re reading, and the audience feels it. Interview-driven video gives the executive room to sound like themselves. The exception: highly regulated content where wording precision matters more than natural delivery. In those cases, tightly scripted content read from teleprompter is often the right call.

What if our executive is uncomfortable on camera?

Most executives are, at first. Camera comfort is a skill that develops across the first few shoots. Our approach: start with lower-stakes formats before graduating to higher-stakes formats. Executives who feel judged on set never find their groove; executives who feel supported almost always do.

How do we handle a CEO who wants to launch a branded podcast?

Same infrastructure and standards we use for the named talent podcasts recorded in our studio. Dedicated podcast room configurations, broadcast-quality audio capture, multi-camera video, post-production tuned for both audio and video distribution. The biggest early decisions are format, cadence, and distribution strategy, we help work through those before production begins.

What’s the difference between executive video and corporate marketing video?

Executive video features and is built around a specific human, the CEO, founder, or a named leader. Corporate marketing video is built around the company or product. Executive video requires much heavier prep and typically more collaboration with comms and legal teams. Most companies need both, executive video is the flagship, marketing video is the volume.

What makes ASL different for executive video production?

Two things. First, our Manhattan studio has hosted named talent including Ben Stiller, Maury Povich, Barry Diller, and Kylie Kelce for podcast recordings and interview series, corporate executives shooting here work in a room built to standards their industry’s most public figures have used. Second, we’ve produced executive video for Fortune 500 employers including Lincoln Financial, Alpha Financial, and RSM since 2007.
